Is it worth repairing — or time to replace?
Not every laptop is worth repairing, and we won't pretend otherwise. If your machine is more than 5 years old and needs a motherboard replacement, the repair cost can approach the price of a new laptop. On the other hand, a 2-year-old laptop with a dead battery or broken screen is almost always worth fixing.

Honest Advice
What to do right now — and what to avoid.
Before you bring your laptop in, here are the safe moves and the dangerous ones.
- Power off the laptop immediately
- Check warranty status — you may still be covered
- Back up any accessible data to cloud or external drive
- Note the exact symptom and when it started
- Remove the battery if it's swollen or leaking
- Do not open the laptop yourself — you'll void warranty and risk damage
- Do not use compressed air on a hot laptop — moisture can short components
- Do not ignore a swollen battery — it's a fire hazard
- Do not reinstall Windows before diagnosing hardware
- Do not charge a water-damaged laptop
