The Most Important Thing to Do Right Now
Do not attempt a RAID rebuild on a degraded array.
This is the single most common mistake Surrey and Metro BC businesses make — and it permanently destroys recoverable data more often than the original failure did. A degraded RAID 5 with one failed drive is recoverable. A RAID 5 that was force-rebuilt with the wrong drive sequence, wrong stripe size, or a second failing drive introduced mid-rebuild is often not.
Power down the array. Do not hot-swap another drive in. Do not initialize or format any drives. Call us first.

What Surrey & Metro BC Businesses Say
RAID Data Recovery — Level by Level

RAID 0 Recovery — Surrey, BC
RAID 0 stripes data across two or more drives with zero redundancy. One drive fails — the entire array goes down immediately. All data becomes inaccessible. Despite having no redundancy, RAID 0 data is often fully recoverable because data from each individual drive is still physically intact on those drives. Recovery requires reconstructing the stripe layout — stripe size, drive order, and start offset — before rebuilding the logical volume. Common in Surrey gaming setups, video editing workstations, and performance-focused business workstations.
RAID 1 Recovery — Surrey, BC
RAID 1 mirrors identical data across two or more drives. If both drives fail at the same time — common after a BC Hydro power surge hitting a Surrey home office — or if the mirror was broken before a second drive failed, data loss occurs. We recover individual drives in the mirror and reconstruct the volume in-house.

RAID 5 Recovery — Surrey, BC
The most common RAID configuration in Surrey and Langley SMB NAS units. RAID 5 distributes parity across all drives — one drive can fail without data loss. The problem: a second drive failing during the rebuild after the first failure destroys the array. And Surrey businesses running RAID 5 arrays with drives all purchased in the same batch frequently see two drives fail within weeks of each other.
Do not rebuild after the first failure if the array is already degraded. Contact us first.
We reconstruct RAID 5 parity layouts, recover failed drives individually where needed, and rebuild the virtual volume in-house. RAID 5 is one of our most common Surrey business recovery cases.
RAID 6 Recovery — Surrey, BC
RAID 6 adds a second parity block, tolerating two simultaneous drive failures. But RAID 6 recovery is more complex — dual parity reconstruction requires precise calculation of both parity stripes across all drives. We handle RAID 6 recovery in-house for Surrey businesses running higher-density NAS and server configurations.

RAID 10 Recovery — Surrey, BC
RAID 10 combines mirroring and striping — fast and redundant, but if both drives in the same mirror fail, that mirror’s data is gone. We reconstruct RAID 10 arrays from surviving mirrors and extract data from failed drive sets in-house.
RAID 50 & RAID 60 Recovery
Multi-parity enterprise configurations — common in Langley Township industrial businesses and Surrey’s 104th Ave corridor professional offices running higher-end NAS or server hardware. Recovered in-house.

NAS Data Recovery — Surrey, BC
Synology NAS Recovery — Surrey, BC
Synology DSM update failed and NAS won’t mount. Multiple drives failed simultaneously. Accidental factory reset. Volume corruption after a power cut at a Surrey Newton home office or Guildford business. We recover Synology NAS data in-house — DSM 6 and DSM 7, Btrfs and EXT4 filesystems, all Synology DS and RS series. We do not need the Synology enclosure to work — we image drives directly and reconstruct the volume in-house.
QNAP NAS Recovery — Surrey, BC
QNAP QTS firmware corruption. Multiple drive failures after a BC Hydro surge in Langley. Accidental RAID group deletion. We recover QNAP NAS data in-house — QTS and QuTS Hero, all QNAP TS series. QNAP uses EXT4 and Btrfs filesystems on standard Linux mdadm RAID — our reconstruction tools handle both.
WD My Cloud Recovery — Surrey, BC
WD My Cloud and My Cloud EX series NAS units — popular with Surrey small businesses and home users for personal cloud storage. Single and multi-drive WD My Cloud failures recovered in-house. WD My Cloud OS 5 update failures that leave the NAS inaccessible are one of our most common Surrey NAS recovery cases.
Netgear ReadyNAS & Others
Netgear ReadyNAS, Buffalo TeraStation, LaCie 2big, G-Technology G-RAID — all NAS brands recovered in-house at our Surrey lab.
Server Data Recovery — Surrey, BC
Dell PowerEdge Server Recovery — Surrey, BC
Dell PowerEdge servers running PERC hardware RAID controllers — PERC H700, H710, H730, H730P, H750. PERC controller failure, multiple drive failures, failed RAID rebuild initiated by IT, accidental array deletion from iDRAC. We recover Dell PowerEdge server data in-house for Surrey businesses, Langley industrial clients, and Vancouver offices.
HP ProLiant Server Recovery — Surrey, BC
HP ProLiant servers with Smart Array controllers — P410, P420, P440, P840. Smart Array controller failure, cache module failure, multiple drive degradation. HP ProLiant server data recovery done in-house at our Surrey lab.
Lenovo ThinkSystem & IBM Server Recovery
Lenovo ThinkSystem SR series and IBM System x servers — all RAID configurations. In-house at our Surrey lab.
Linux & Windows Server Recovery — Surrey, BC
Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022 — Active Directory corruption, Storage Spaces failure, failed Windows Server update from a BC Hydro power cut. Linux servers running mdadm software RAID — EXT4, XFS, Btrfs filesystems. We recover Windows and Linux server data in-house without needing the OS to be functional.
Virtual Machine Recovery — VMware & Hyper-V
VMware VMDK and Microsoft Hyper-V VHDX files on failed host server drives. Corrupted datastores, deleted VM instances, host drive failure mid-operation. In-house Surrey recovery.
Database Server Recovery — Surrey, BC
MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL — database files on failed server storage. Surrey accounting firms, medical offices, and legal practices running on-premise database servers. Recovered in-house with full confidentiality. NDA available.
Common Surrey RAID & Server Failure Causes
BC Hydro power surges. Surrey’s older Newton and Cloverdale commercial grids and Langley Township’s Aldergrove and Brookswood areas are more exposed to BC Hydro fluctuations than central Metro Vancouver. A surge mid-write on a RAID array is one of the most destructive events — it can corrupt parity data across multiple drives simultaneously. A UPS on every server and NAS is not optional for any Surrey or Langley business with critical data.
Multiple simultaneous drive failures. RAID 5 arrays built with drives from the same manufacturing batch fail together — drives reaching end-of-life at the same time, often within weeks or months of each other. Buying replacement drives individually from different batches reduces this risk significantly.
Failed RAID rebuild. A second drive failing mid-rebuild is common — the rebuild process puts maximum stress on every remaining drive. Initiating a rebuild without verifying all remaining drives are healthy first is the most avoidable cause of permanent data loss we see from Surrey clients.
Accidental RAID reconfiguration. IT contractor initializes the wrong array during a migration. NAS firmware update resets RAID configuration. A new QNAP or Synology NAS setup overwrites the existing RAID group. All of these are recoverable — if you power down immediately and call us before anything else writes to the drives.
Controller failure. RAID controller cards fail independently from the drives. The data on the drives is intact but the controller that knows how to read the RAID layout is dead. We bypass failed controllers and reconstruct RAID parameters manually using our recovery tools.

Depends on the RAID level and failure type. RAID 6 tolerates two failures by design. RAID 5 with two failures is more complex but often partially or fully recoverable. Free assessment first.
